Veritas - Napier's Student Newspaper

Veritas

Veritas is Napier’s student newspaper. It’s written and produced by Napier students for Napier students and is always looking for students to write features, news, sports, reviews; take photos, sell advertising, proof read and lay it out. That’s a good range of activities that should attract people with different interests and skills.

Budding journalists are encouraged to write for the paper as it is good experience for their future careers. Some of their stories have been picked up by bigger papers and even, on occasion, the nationals.

But Veritas is not just for student journos, it wants to encourage a much wider participation than that. Students out there with something to say, or who want to be involved in the paper in any capacity, are encouraged to come forward.

The Students’ Association provides Veritas with a set up budget to help it get up and running and attracting advertising revenue. It provides an office at Craighouse Campus for the team to use as an HQ. It also checks over text for anything that may offend the law or the code of practice.

Otherwise the paper has an editorial independence of the University and NSA. The balance, appearance, content and frequency of production of the paper varies depending on the editorial team in charge. The editor is elected by Napier students across campus and the 2008/09 editor is Alan Berry, a 4th year honours Journalism student (pictured below).

Alan’s aim is to produce a regular, quality publication that is accessible to all Napier students who want to contribute – especially 1st and 2nd year students because they represent the paper’s future. He also wants to make Veritas provide entertainment and well balanced news coverage from Napier and further afield.
