Campaigns

What is planned for 07/08

Over the coming year there will be many campaigns being launched and for you the students to get involved in. October starts with the ‘Discounted Bus Passes for all Full-Time Mature Students Campaign’, highlighting the problem that students who are over 25 face by not being treated as students by Lothian Buses. There will be a petition being launched early in October so please look out and get behind this major campaign.

October is also Black History Month, where we will be looking to run an event to support black students at our University. October will then conclude with Breast Cancer Care Awareness Week running from 22nd – 26th around all the campuses and with a Charity Disco being held at Craiglockhart on Friday 26th (keep a look out for more details about this during that week).

November will include another awareness week from 26th – 30th for World Aids/Hiv, along with a St Andrews Night Charity Ceilidh/Disco on Friday 30th (once again keep watch during this week).

Throughout the rest of the year we will continue to be active around the campuses supporting many campaigns and events including Comic Relief/Red Nose Days and many Health and Sexual Awareness projects. On top of this we will be very supportive of campaigns run through NUS Scotland that may affect you as students, and will also consider any other campaigns you may want to raise with us.

Finally we’ll be promoting awareness of what we do at the Students’ Association so that students can access what they want or need: representation of student interests, confidential advice (ISAS), sports teams, societies, free condoms, the student bar to name a few things we’re involved in.

If there are other campaigns on student issues that you feel we should be involved in, please contact Gary Cardle at the union (see column on right).
