New students coming to Napier from outside the city, and especially from outside the UK, should be wary of accepting accommodation offers from private “landlords” listed on accommodation sites on the net. A few students have parted with money to fictitious landlords for accommodation that does not belong to the so-called “landlord” and is not even up for rent. The Police are involved but these students have very little chance of seeing their money again.
Our advice to students seeking rented accommodation is always to check the property out in person before handing over any money and read the lease before signing it. If you want more advice or someone to read the lease for you, contact an ISAS (Independent Student Advice Service) adviser at NSA isas@napier.ac.uk or phone 229-8791 for an appointment.
