Napier University football club runs three teams competing in the Scottish conference section of BUSA(British Universities Sports Association). The three teams are selected at the start of each session, so make sure you make it to trials if you want the opportunity to play for one of the teams. Trials will be advertised through e-mail, at the Freshers Fair and on posters around the campuses to make sure no-one misses out. Those who are selected for any of the three squads must pay £10 to Napier Sports Union in order to be allowed to play for the club as this fee covers insurance for any unfortunate injuries players may sustain. There is also a £20 club membership fee that covers various charges that the club may incur throughout the season. Hopefully this won’t put anyone off trying out, all money paid to the club goes back into the club so it is for your benefit.

Season 2006/2007 has shown great progress for the football club, with the 1st XI and 3rd XI winning their championships and thus achieving promotion. Training sessions are held at Saughton Sports Ground on Monday nights, with occasional fitness sessions on Thursdays. BUSA matches are generally played on Wednesday afternoons, so players have to make sure that they are free to play in matches or arrange it with their tutors if they have to miss a class. The football club is looking for committed players when selecting squads as it is a long season and players need to be available for the duration of the season. The club embraces all nationalities, currently we have players from France, Norway, Ghana and Canada, so don’t worry if your English needs improving, we believe that football is an international language! The Football Club naturally has a strong social scene, some may say post-match celebrations are more fun than training and matches! The Club makes good use of the Student union on Wednesday nights and there is always a tale or two to tell after a night out!
Much has been done this year to take the University Football Club on to the next level, competing with other, more recognised football universities, including the appointment of an SFA qualified coach. So if you think you could be the kind of player we are looking for make sure you look out for the trials at the start of next season!
