Sub Aqua

sub-aqua

Join our club and open your eyes to the sights and sounds of Scotland, both above and below the water. No previous experience is necessary, however this should not deter experienced divers, as all skill levels are catered for. Newcomers to the sport will undergo training as set by the Scottish Sub Aqua Club (SCOTSAC), which leads to an internationally recognised diving qualification (sport diver), while experienced divers can enjoy the camaraderie of Scotland’s unique dive scene.

Regular training trips to Loch Long and Loch Fyne provide an open water taster, ideal preparation for our most adventurous diving trips, where you can explore gems like the SS Breda and the Port Napier, along with their present day “crew” in their watery resting places. As well as exploring wrecks and rocks, you might also be lucky enough to come face to face with all manner of aquatic life as you explore the depths (including lobsters, crabs, seals, octopus, Moray eels etc.) as well as catching your dinner in the form of scallops and prawns.

All of these experiences and more are waiting for you at (and here’s the important bit) student friendly prices. The club is run entirely by volunteers who are by and large former members themselves, and the social nights (OK, drinking sessions) are second to none.

If you can’t wait to take the plunge, or even if you are just curious, feel free to come along to the initial training sessions where you will have the opportunity to try the equipment in a safe environment, and come and meet some of the longer standing members in the pub afterwards. We look forward to meeting and diving with you!

Training:

Training sessions every Thursday during the first semester. Pub sessions on Thursdays at King's Bar.
