Scotland Celebrates Black History Month
Monday 30 October 2017
5:30pm - 8pm
Join students from Higher Education institutions across Scotland for a celebration of Black History Month. Black stands for politically Black, a term that aims to include those of African, Asian, Arab, Caribbean and Latin American descent and strives for global unity and solidarity.
Nearly a third of students at Edinburgh Napier come from outside of the UK. With this diverse community, it is important that we celebrate key diversity events with our students.
BEING BLACK MEANS
We are encouraging students of colour to take part in NUS Scotland's #beingBlackmeans campaign, where you send in a photograph of yourself along with a quote that says something about what being Black means to you.
Email your pics and quotes to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Your photo and quote will be included in our exhibition at the event - get involved!
Some example quotes from the NUS Black students committee: "#beingBlackmeans...having friends all over the world", "#beingBlackmeans…fighting for social justice"
This FREE EVENT will include:
- Black student speakers
- live streamed debate / discussion panel
- photo exhibition of black students from across Scottish institutions
- Meet student leaders from all across Scotland
