Dear fellow students,

I am Siddhartha Reddy, and I am running for President in the upcoming student elections. With your support, I believe we can bring meaningful change, amplify our voices, and create a campus experience that reflects our aspirations. My goal is to represent YOU—the students— and work tirelessly to improve our academic environment, campus life, and overall well-being.

My Vision:

I envision a university that is not just a place of learning, but a community where every student feels heard, valued, and empowered.

My Promises & Goals:

Improved Academic Support:

  • Advocate for more accessible tutoring, study sessions, and academic workshops.
  • Ensure that all students, regardless of their major, have equal access to academic resources.

Campus Safety & Inclusivity:

  • Strive for a safer campus through better lighting, more security patrols, and an
  • updated emergency alert system.

Sustainability:

  • Champion eco-friendly practices, including waste reduction, recycling programs, and promoting green energy solutions on campus.
  • Encourage sustainable transportation options and support student-led environmental initiatives.

Better Campus Facilities :

  • Lobby for improved study spaces, better library resources, and extended hours in student facilities.

More Student Engagement & Representation:

  • Create more opportunities for students to voice their opinions and engage in decision-making processes.
  • Ensure that all student organizations and clubs are given the resources they need to thrive.

Transparent Communication:

  • Act as a bridge, making sure students' concerns are directly heard by the university’s decision-makers.

+If elected, what would you do to address the issues faced by students around housing?

If I were elected to address the specific housing challenges faced by international students, my platform would go beyond general student housing needs to address the barriers... financial, legal, and social.

  1. Eliminating the "UpFront Rent" barrier : It is one of the biggest hurdles for international students is being asked for 6 - 12 months of rent upfront because they lack a UK-based guarantor.
  2. Financial Fairness : The cost of living for international students has risen sharply, with maintenance requirements now exceeding £1,170 per month in many areas... I would work to ensure that the Home Office's "proof of funds" requirements are more closely aligned with actual local rents, preventing students from being "blindsided" by costs that are higher than their visa requirements suggest.
  3. Contract Protection : Many international students need 9 months or 10 months contracts rather than 12 month ones. I would incentivize Student Accommodation providers to offer flexible terms that match academic cycles.
+If elected, how would you work with student societies?

If I were elected to represent you, My strategy would focus on empowering your independence, securing your funding, and integrating your expertise into policy making.
