So we are hosting a special meeting called Prohibition Tasting on Tuesday the 19th of February (7-10pm @ Bainfield Cafe Bar), and we are looking to get tickets put up on the ENSA website. The members cost will be £20 and non members £24. Members should only be able to buy a max of one members ticket, but up to three non- members tickets. The write up for the event should be as follows;
Exactly 100 years ago this year, the USA voted for prohibition; a complete ban on the production and sale of alcohol. This kicked off 13 years of gangster wars, speakeasies, blind pigs, bootlegging, rum running, corrupt cops, moonshine, and much, much more. Therefore, it seems only fitting that we explore this Prohibition theme in a tasting led by Dr. Chris White from Edinburgh Whisky Blog!
As we dram our way through five delicious whiskies, Chris will focus on the famous dry period in 1920s America, and look at why it happened, what Americans did to get round it, and how this era changed the American social landscape forever. We’ll also investigate how prohibition affected Scotland – from banning it ourselves (it did happen!) to how the thrifty Scots took advantage of the thirsty American black market.
This is a tasting not to be missed, so get your ticket now before they’re gone.
