Ideas

Welcome to ENSA's Ideas Forum! This is where you can submit an idea for any changes you'd like to see at the University or your Students' Association. You can also vote and comment on ideas submitted by other students!

The Ideas Forum is an easy way for you to get in touch, let us know what changes need to be made, and to get your voice heard. Let us know what it is you care about!

THE PROCESS

1. Submit Your Idea

Your idea could be about almost anything related to student life. It could be a campaign you think ENSA should be involved in, a type of event you would like to see, a suggestion for a new society or sports clubs, about campus facilties, anything you like really! You can choose to submit your idea anonymously if you'd prefer.

2. Students Vote on the Idea

Once you have submitted an idea, other students will get the opportunity to comment on it, and can vote it up or down depending on if they agree or not. The more students who vote for your idea, the more power we have to try and action it!

3. Action is Taken

All of the ideas will be read by ENSA's Full-Time Officers. Where appropriate, ideas will be taken forward for further discussion by the Executive Committee and/or Student Council/The ENSA 50.

Student Safety: Let's acknowledge sexual assault!

    Current
I understand this is a highly triggering and a sensitive issue that people do not want, are scared of and do not know how to approach but maybe we could start here. There is one issue on my mind that has been neglected by the universities in Edinburgh and that is: the limited support or awareness for rape/ sexual assault survivors around the campuses. As 1 in 4 women, 1 in 6 children and 1 in 20 men experience sexual assault in UK (Rapecrisis.org.uk), I truly believe this is not something that can be omitted and should be addressed. The recovery process of a victim is not easy, it can create long-term physical and psychological damage to a person causing them to fail or struggle at universities as one result. Due to the wrongful image that society has created of sexual assault; this trauma is unfortunately a silent one where thousands suffer alone. An awareness campaign could exploit wrongful assumptions about sexual assault and offer knowledge and resources that are easily accessed (e.g., an app on the phone or information on their website) as with the platform and the power the higher education has, a change could be achieved. I have many ideas for campiagns that would adress this but I need your help!
