Volunteering News

Our Befrienders offer support to a young person living with Cystic Fibrosis. Befrienders share social activities and support to explore concerns so the person can grow self-confidence and develop life skills.

Befriending Volunteer

The Befriending service aims to breakdown the isolation experienced by carers in providing them with a volunteer befriender. The role is flexible, allowing the volunteer and carer to negotiate when and where, and how often, they will meet.

Food Sharing Edinburgh Research Assistant

Food Sharing has a good relationship with a variety of small businesses across Edinburgh, where we collect excess food daily. Tasks for the research assistant include researching best practice in food waste management across Scotland, selecting a set of organisations to be used as case studies, interviewing businesses and writing a practical guide with step-by-step instructions.

Social Researcher

We have developed a unique programme that equips volunteers to write good quality literary reviews on a range of topics around social innovation and modern day social issues. Volunteers receive training on how to review all different mediums of research.

This may involve working with small groups of participants under the supervision of the coach or providing one to one support for participants

My Guide Volunteer

My Guide volunteers help people with sight loss get out of their homes and back into the community. You will work with your partner to set goals that increase their ability to get out and about. Take part in social and leisure activities such as shopping, walking or a local coffee group.

App Development Officer

In an effort to maximize dissemination of our materials and teach emergency healthcare to a wider audience, we are currently developing a web application which allows users to learn new skills. This web app takes the form of text and picture based lessons and associated quizzes. The aim of the quizzes is both to help users test their knowledge and at the same time provide us with data to make sure that our lessons are teaching what we think they are.
