Support, guidance and opportunities for female, BAME, and Widening Participation students
Edinburgh Napier's Employability & Careers team has collected a number of useful resources and links to organisations that provide support, guidance and opportunities to female and BAME students and students from Widening Participation backgrounds.
These links are only a starting point, and there are many more organisations and resources out there with a wealth of useful information.
Female Student Career Resources and Programmes
- Equate Scotland - Equate Scotland is the national expert in gender equality throughout the STEM sectors. They focus on making a tangible and sustainable change, enabling women studying and working in these key sectors to develop, by supporting their recruitment, retention, and progression
- Tech Ladies - Seeks to close the gender gap in tech fields by connecting women with tech companies looking to diversify their workforce.
- Discover EY - Women in Business - opportunity to learn more about EY, network with women leaders, and gain insight into Assurance, Strategy and Transactions, Tax, or Technology.
- Winning Women | JPMorgan Chase & Co. - introductory programme for undergraduate women, the Winning Women programme provides an entry into financial services and a meaningful overview of the opportunities for female leadership at the firm.
BAME Student Career Resources and Programmes
- Black Young Professionals Network – This organisation runs tailored events including careers webinars, networking and mentoring, and a jobs board
- SEO London – SEO provides training and mentoring, careers support, programmes in finance, consulting, law, real estate.
- 10000 interns foundation – This foundation provides paid, six-week internships, with support from a mentor, in a range of sectors. Applications open in autumn for the following summer.
- Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers – This is a helpful list which aims to identify leading employers who promote inclusion across all protected characteristics.
Widening Participation Student Career Resources
- Sutton Trust - The Sutton Trust supports social mobility through education.
- The Brilliant Club - This charity runs initiatives like the Scholars Programme and Join the Dots to help underrepresented students access universities.
- UpReach - Provides personalised career support for undergraduates from less-advantaged backgrounds. Offers mentoring, employer events, and internship preparation.
- Social Mobility Foundation (SMF) - Offers the Aspiring Professionals Programme with mentoring, work placements, and support for university applications for high-achieving students from low-income families.
