Resilient Skills – What are they, and why do they matter?
The short answer is because you matter, and building your resilient skills is an investment in you, your development and your future.
OK, so you now might be asking what we mean by Resilient Skills. Fair question. At Napier, we mean the soft-skills that will support you to have a successful university experience and set you up for whatever life has in store afterwards. Things like working effectively in a team, facing challenges and change, dealing with procrastination, and much more.
It’s quite a tall order, as who knows what life has in store?
That’s why this isn’t about learning a specific thing, it’s about developing skills and aptitudes that continue to develop and grow. This is often referred to as lifelong and life-wide learning.
This will be different for all of us, so we have created an online resource that provides the tools and insights you will need, but the learning bit comes from personal reflection.
You can find the Resilient Skills Programme on Moodle. The Moodle code is LS003009, and this is open to everyone. You will need to enrol, and the enrolment key is Skills.
What you will find is a range of topics grouped under three headings, Personal Productivity, Professional Effectiveness and Individual Resilience.
There’s a video for every topic, and a range of reflection exercises and resources.
And when you’ve finished all the topics in a section you can unlock the certificate that confirms your completion.
Yes, the learning is in the reflection, and that’s for you. But if you’re looking for a job then your potential employer will more likely want to see a certificate as well!
This is a growing resource and we’re constantly updating and improving, so dive in anytime and start sharpening your own resilient skills.
