Briefing: Co-President Sport & Wellbeing
The Co-President (Sport & Wellbeing) is a role focused on supporting the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of students at Edinburgh Napier University. This role is about creating a healthier, safer, and more inclusive university experience — whether students engage through sport, movement, community, or wellbeing support.
Working alongside the University, sports clubs, and student groups, the Co-President ensures that student voices shape decisions about sport, facilities, safety, and wellbeing. The role champions accessible opportunities for everyone, from competitive athletes to those simply looking for recreational activity to keep fit during their studies.
What the role involves
As Co-President (Sport & Wellbeing), you will have the opportunity to:
- Support and develop student sport at Edinburgh Napier, including sports clubs, competitive sport, and inclusive recreational activities open to all students
- Promote physical and mental wellbeing through campaigns that prioritise student health, safety, and balance
- Advocate for sport and wellbeing to be embedded across University strategies, including estates, facilities, and campus planning
- Help oversee the allocation of sports funding, ensuring processes are transparent, fair, and reflective of student needs
- Organise and support wellbeing-focused events that encourage participation, confidence, and community, such as Movember and Feel Fab Feb
- Support Sports Club committee members through regular communication, training, and engagement
- Facilitate Sports Forum and Student Council meetings in a welcoming and inclusive way
Making a positive impact
Previous Co-Presidents (Sport & Wellbeing) have helped to deliver meaningful change by:
- Campaigning for improved sports provision and facilities through the creation of a Sports Steering Group involving senior leaders and staff
- Establishing the Sports Volunteer Committee to strengthen student voice and involvement in ENSA Sports
- Expanding the Club Development Fund and successfully advocating for increased funding to better support sports clubs
Why consider this role?
This role is ideal for students who care about wellbeing, inclusion, and creating positive environments — not just those who see themselves as “sporty”. You don’t need to be an elite athlete or a confident public speaker to succeed. Empathy, organisation, and a desire to support others are just as important.
The Co-President (Sport & Wellbeing) role offers the chance to:
- Help shape a university culture that values wellbeing alongside academic success
- Build confidence and transferable skills in leadership, communication, and advocacy
- Make sport and wellbeing more accessible, welcoming, and representative of the student community
- Work as part of a supportive team committed to collaboration and student-led change
