Five Things for a Friday

A weekly update on what has been happening at Edinburgh Napier Students' Association

Five Things for a Friday

Five Things for a Friday is a weekly blog run by ENSA staff, giving you an overview of what has been happening over the past week and some of the work that has been going on behind the scenes.

Five Things For A Friday 14.11.25

Posted on Fri 14 Nov 2025 at 09:57 by Anthony Foster

1) Students are amazing

Well done to all the students, clubs, societies, sabbaticals and staff taking part in this years Movember.  You smashed the £5000 target but just mid way into the month you are just £200 short of the total we achieved last year.  Could we break the £10000 and more?  You have until the end of November to take part or support.  Check out the news story to follow how Team Napier are doing.

2) On the Pulse

Talking of exceeding totals last year we have already exceeded the amount of students, societies, sports clubs, course reps, student council members, event goers and those involved in ENSA who have given their view in the annual Pulse Survey.  This is your opportunity to tell us how ENSA are doing and helps us reflect on what we do well, what needs improvement and where we should direct our resources.  Check out our news pages for the link to have your say.

3) Other successes

This week Evans and Chika attended and participated in Times Higher Education conference, I see Societies and Sports memberships are climbing up (in Sports case they are 14% higher than this time last year), we have 407 programme reps compared to 301 at the same time last year.  I attended some of the Class Rep forum this week and found it very informative, particularly the thoughtful comments shared with us about the current University Review.  We will be sharing these and comments we have already received on your behalf to the University People Team.  Please do take part in all the activities we offer, which not only can be fun but can help your future career prospects (that was the subject of another meeting - see the next paragraph!)

4) Meetings,meetings, meetings

We have been arranging final sign off of audited accounts, arranging time to review budgets with staff, planning Uniforce and Varsity arrangements, prepareing for our next ENSA Board, seeing new student interns get into their stride and projects, bringing together elements discussed for the Clubs and Societies Awards Ball, moving back meetings while more work is undertaken and taking further meetings postponed a few times as everyone has been so busy.  We are even planning meetings to discuss too many meetings, despite our best efforts!  Thats just a few things that everyone in the team has been up to.

5) Film Festival

One of those meetings was a review of the Film Festival.  What a great event it was, now in it's second year.  Some great sessions, febulous films, lessons learnt and more feedback required but we enjoyed every minute of it and well done to Evans and the team behnd it all. Thank you to everyone who came along. Tonight we go off to Creative Edinburgh Awards Ceremony to see if Evans, who has been nominated for Best Student, wins an award.  That would be a nice end to the week but if not we still have work to do from the larder to our forthcoming International Briefing Event.  More on all that soon!
