Engaging Students Report and Funding Update

Hi all,

It’s been a fantastic year here at ENSA and I have thoroughly enjoyed being your Student President. It is hard to believe that I will be finishing this Friday and before I go I wanted to share with you some of the highlights over the year.

There have been some amazing achievements over this past year which would not have been possible without ENSA and you the membership of ENSA and I am attaching our fabulous ‘ENSA: Engaging Students’ publication to show you what I mean.

Unfortunately, despite our achievements and ENSA’s best efforts following a long negotiation process, it is with great regret that I now have to inform you that the University has confirmed a cut to ENSA’s funding of 4.4%, as well as ‘ring-fencing’ some of the remaining funding for University approved purposes.

The ENSA Board of Trustees will be meeting over the next few weeks to try to minimise the impact of the cuts but it is likely that there will be a significant effect on the vast variety of services which we offer to our student members.

We have already seen some fantastic support from our members and I would personally like to thank you all for all of your efforts they have not gone unnoticed. We are hoping to draw all of this support together into a single concerted effort to show the University how important these services are to you.

Welcome

Hello Edinburgh Napier students and welcome to university.

You are about to start the next chapter of your life and your emotions will be running wild with nerves and excitement about starting your new course and living on your own for the first time. What better way to start your new journey than by getting involved with our Fresher’s Week? You will make countless new friends who are all in the same position as you!

We at Edinburgh Napier Students’ Association (ENSA) are excited to meet you all and hopefully you will get involved with us during your time at Edinburgh Napier University by joining sports teams, societies, volunteering or regular Napier Night Out club nights. I cannot stress enough that your whole Uni experience will improve dramatically by getting involved with ENSA.

Remember that ENSA is here to enhance your student experience in any way it can by making changes around the university that benefits the students. The two Vice-Presidents and I are situated at B34 Merchiston Campus if you ever want to drop in for a chat.

My main advice would be to throw yourself into the student experience and into city life. The University and Edinburgh have so much to offer you, such as a great education, amazing friends and memories which will last a lifetime - remember you are in one of the greatest cities in the world! Now is the time to try something new, don’t be afraid, seize the day!

3 years ago, I was starting where you are now, new to the university and the city. I had all of the same emotions that you have, and look at where I am now. I have the pleasure of getting to represent you, the students, as your President and I must say that this is the best job that I could have ever wished for.

If you ever want to get in touch, please do not hesitate. I wish you all the best during your time at Edinburgh Napier University and remember to enjoy yourselves!
