Drama Society

Napier University Drama Society (or NUDS, as it is affectionately known) is a group of students dedicated to putting on amazing shows for peers, parents, strangers - basically anyone willing to buy a ticket. We are one of the oldest and most popular societies at Napier University.

If you love any aspect of theatre or theatre production, you just found your new home. NUDS is always open to people who want to act, direct, write, manage, advertise, build props, work sound, take photos, be loved, buy the next round of drinks - you’ll be welcomed and appreciated and challenged and rewarded and soon enough you won’t even remember what life was like before NUDS. We handle everything ourselves, so there are plenty of opportunities to try out new things or hone your skills. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! 

The year begins with ice-breakers, improv sessions and workshops, followed by tonnes of socialising. Some weeks will just be fun nights at our favourite pub, but for others we really push the boat out. We’re talking karaoke sessions, escape rooms, powerpoint nights; whatever you're into, there's plenty to get involved with. 

Each term we put on a show written by members of the society. Roles are guaranteed, so no stress about getting a part, and we have a variety of role sizes available for people looking to shine in the spotlight, or just wanting to thrive in the limelight. With shows each term, NUDS is perfect if you're looking to settle down with a society, or just try something out for a term. 

Our 2025/26 shows included Money Launderette, a comedic take on a criminal gang conflict, and Princess and the Frogs, a humorous insight into the trials and tribulations of running a dating show set in a fantasy world.  

During the summer we also have the privilege of participating in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with Greenside venues. Our most recent endeavor, A Queen's Way, took place in a medieval fantasy kingdom. Our protagonist, Karalyne, who lived in the peasant village with her younger brother, ends up accidentally murdering the King, forcing her to take over the throne and perform royal duties against her will.

Aside from the blow-out after-show festivities, we also host our very own awards show: The NUDS Oscar’s! Our biggest and classiest event, this is our main opportunity to show the love, dress up fancy, with personalised (and occasionally outrageous) awards handed out to every member alongside the traditional awards for acting and behind-the-scenes work.
