Welcome to the Edinburgh Napier Jazz Society or ENJS. Our goal is to create a platform for jazz education, expression and appreciation for those with a passion for jazz and improvisational music.
If you’re keen to learn about jazz, improve your improvisation skills, or just want to listen to lots of great music, come along to our various jam sessions, masterclasses, and socials. We welcome any instrument and ability - from total beginners to experienced jazzers - and we’re open to any style of jazz, so don’t be afraid to come along, give it a go, and meet many like-minded people!
Our society began as a response to the closure of the jazz modules on the music course at Napier. As we settled into a groove, we began reaching out to prominent Scottish jazz musicians, such as Stephen Henderson, Tom Bancroft, Honda Kourimsky and more to provide jazz masterclasses providing an insight into the experiences and wisdom of excellent musicians. These masterclasses were a successful part of our society and we will continue to hold more in the future alongside other jazz societies across Scotland.
Another activity we frequently run in our society is jam nights. These give members a chance to play repertoire and learn to play with other musicians. Our jam nights will open to all styles from jazz-funk to free jazz. All instruments and abilities are welcome and if you are unsure about participating in our jam nights, we encourage you to come and watch, suss out the vibe for yourself and enjoy the music.
We are currently working on plans to grow together musicians from our society and Edinburgh University Jazz Society, creating bands to hold a showcase at the end of each term. This will be a chance for members to become part of a group, or showcase their projects, to friends, family and all audiences who turn up.
There is a lot in the works and we are excited to bring you a whole host of activities and opportunities to learn and play.

We hope to see you there!
