It’s been fantastic to see so many of our societies getting involved and making the most of the opportunities available since the start of term! We kicked things off with a successful Welcome Fair, featuring 28 society stalls and giving students the chance to discover new interests find their community.
Since memberships went live on 17 August, we’ve welcomed 868 society members, launched 5 new societies including 2 relaunched societies. It’s brilliant to see our societies continuing to grow, with so many students getting involved and bringing fresh ideas to campus.
Our Societies Advisory Board 26/27 is also officially underway, with an amazing turnout of eight committee members representing a diverse range of societies, from Women in Tech to Chess and Book Club. At our first Advisory Board meeting, members had the opportunity to vote on 10 Society Development Fund applications, with societies requesting a combined total of £4,000 in funding. We’re excited to see how this support will help societies develop their ideas, organise new events and create even more opportunities for students to get involved.
Global Horizons (14 October at Craiglockhart) kickstarts one of ENSA's many events that get societies involved, with our brand new society, Pakistani showcasing their culture. There will also be appearances from Anime & Manga and K-pop !
Looking ahead, we’re excited to be planning our first-ever Societies Awards Ball ! This will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our societies and their committee members, with special performances from our Orchestra society and Choir to make the occasion even more memorable.
I’m incredibly excited about what’s to come this year. From supporting our existing societies to helping new ones get off the ground !
