Start your own Society

Any current Edinburgh Napier student can decide to start a society, whatever your idea. ENSA Societies can be about almost anything, some common categories are:

  • Academic - bring people from your course/school together to explore your subject in more depth, hold socials or end of year balls, get external speakers in, or make contacts in your industry.
  • Hobbies/Interests - whether you're into horror films, sewing, photography or board games, societies are the best way to meet people with similar interests.
  • Cultural - want to share your culture with other students, meet people from a similar background to yourself, or teach people your native language? A cultural society can be a fantastic opportunity to enrich the University experience.
  • Political - bring together people across the University who share your political perspective, raise awareness of a political campaign or idea, or support a political party.
  • Skills-based - get a group together to learn a new skill or share your skills with others. Skills can include anything from bicycle maintenance and gardening, to making films and learning to juggle.

How to get started

Step 1 - You will need a committee of at least 4 students to take on the roles of President, Secretary, Treasurer and Wellbeing Officer. These people will lead the society, liaise with ENSA, manage finances, and plan events and activities.

Step 2 - You will need 10 students who are interested in your society to demonstrate there is an appetite for the group. These 10 include the committee members. If you are finding it hard to collect 10 names, we will give you one month after the society starts to gather members.

Step 3 - Fill in a Society Starter Pack and submit this to societies@napierstudents.com.

Step 4 - Arrange a chat with the President for Societies and Community

    Agritecture & Sustainable Futures Society

    Current
The Agritecture & Sustainable Futures Society aims to create an interdisciplinary platform at Edinburgh Napier University that bridges architecture, agriculture, climate science, technology, and sustainability. The society will focus on how the built environment can actively contribute to food security, climate resilience, regenerative landscapes, and sustainable communities. It will encourage collaboration among students from architecture, engineering, construction, environmental science, business, and computing, fostering practical innovation beyond conventional classroom learning. Key activities will include: Talks and panel discussions with professionals in sustainable design, agritech, and climate innovation Hands-on workshops on topics such as urban farming, green building systems, and low-carbon materials Site visits, exhibitions, and design charrettes Student-led research, competitions, and collaborative projects Networking with industry partners, startups, and sustainability organisations The society’s long-term vision is to empower students to become climate-conscious designers, innovators, and leaders, while positioning ENU as a hub for forward-thinking, sustainability-driven student initiatives.

7:52am on 17 Jan 26 My vision is to establish a structured, student-led society that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration around sustainability, climate-responsive design, and innovation. Through responsible leadership and well-planned activities, the society will enhance student skills, engagement, and contribute positively to ENU’s sustainability culture in alignment with ENSA values.
